AIRTEST INTRODUCES VENTILATION ENERGY ANALYSIS PROGRAM FOR BUILDINGS
AirTest Technologies (TSXV: AAT) is pleased to announce that it has just released its new energy analysis program that can calculate building energy savings and green house gas emissions reductions that will result from the application of AirTest sensors to better control ventilation in new and existing buildings. The program is called the Ventilation
Optimization Energy Analysis Program (VOEP).
The energy analysis program was developed for use by building owners, contractors and electric utilities to quantify the financial, energy and environmental benefits of using AirTest’s sensor to actively and accurately control outside air ventilation in buildings. AirTest is already using the program with Southern California Edison in California to provide the basis for calculating rebates for installations of AirTest’s carbon dioxide and fresh air economizer sensors. The program has detailed climatic data for 228 North American cities, and allows the user to input their own building characteristics and energy cost to get a realistic impact of the savings possible from better outside air control.
All buildings, as required by codes, must provide a certain amount of outside air to a building based on the number of occupants. Theoretically this involved bringing in a fixed amount of air based on the estimated maximum occupancy of the building. In practice, outside air quantities are often arbitrarily set, often resulting in over ventilation of the space that can impact comfort and energy use. In fact outside air intakes are one of the few components of a building that is not actively monitored, measured or controlled. AirTest’s carbon dioxide sensors are designed to measure occupancy and ventilation in the space and modulate outside air based on actual, real time occupancy.
AirTest also offers dew point and temperature sensors that can determine when outside air conditions are
right to provide free cooling to the space. This approach, called economizer control has typically used technology that can introduce excessive moisture levels that potentially can lead to mold and at the least must be removed when real air conditioning is activated. In a recently developed white paper that provides background to the energy analysis program, AirTest has documented the significant flaws with the current approach. Today, roughly 60% of buildings use fresh air economizers that are wasting energy and impacting moisture levels.
The VOEP energy analysis program and whitepaper explaining the program and opportunity for CO2 and economizer savings in existing and new buildings, is available to contractors, building owners and distribution partners. The VOEP serves as an active working tool to identify potential energy savings in all types of buildings. AirTest also offers web based training in how to use the VOEP program.
